Mercy at Covenant

The Mercy Committee strives to equip the congregation to respond compassionately to the needs in our city. We do this by facilitating service opportunities that meet physical and spiritual needs. By partnering with city ministries like Breakthrough Urban Ministries, Sunshine Gospel Ministries, the Chicago Food Depository, World Relief and others, we hope to embody the gospel in Chicago as we learn to better love God and our neighbors.

Covenant Scholarship Fund

The Covenant Scholarship Fund is administered by the Diaconate of Covenant Presbyterian Church. The purpose of the CSF is to encourage and support Covenant members and/or their children who need financial assistance for college. Covenant Scholarships are intended to be used for the purchase of books and supplies. We anticipate that scholarship amounts will range up to $500.

Serve and Participate

- Serve at the Joshua Center, Breakthrough Urban Ministries' west-side women's shelter. Join with others from Covenant in preparing, serving, and sharing a meal together with the women there. Covenant serves breakfast every fourth Saturday of the month, 7-9 am. and various dinners each month. Contact: Lauren Ireland ( melauren22@gmail.com )

- Volunteer with the Chicago Food Depository and other neighborhood outreach opportunities. Contact: Tom Smith ( tomsmith1650@gmail.com )

- Help with World Relief: join others from Covenant in welcoming to Chicago a newly-arrived individual refugee or refugee family. Also, spend regular time with a refugee who needs company, help improving his/her English, assistance with transportation, etc. Contact: Katie DeVries ( katherinemklad@hotmail.com )

- Help with ongoing, occasional or seasonal events, such as the Mercy Bin, Christmas-in-the-City, the Mercy Sunday worship service; Christian Education classes; one-time service/outreach events, and in many others ways. There are needs for people to plan, organize, make announcements, create bulletin inserts, promote & coordinate events, participate in leadership, coordinate with small groups, and encourage wider congregation participation.
